Oughterard, Connemara, Co. Galway.Less than 5 minutes drive from Oughterard, the avid golfer has the choice of 7, 18 hole golf courses. So every day you can take the challenge of a links or parkland course, truly a golfers paradise. The club is situated adjacent to the 15th century Aughnanure Castle. Mature trees demand through out an accuracy from the tee, and elevated greens require precision and patience. The relatively short front nine injects a false sense of security that is quickly deflated on some very testing holes over the inward nine, leaving the player with memories of a fair but demanding course.
Stone walls reflect a bygone era when the lands once belonged to the ferocious O'Flaherty clan of nearby Aughnanure Castle. The Clubhouse, converted from majestic farmhouse buildings, offers visiting golfers every modern facility, including a well-stocked pro shop, a first class restaurant and a homely and welcoming bar. Other courses within a short drive are: Connemara Isles Golf & Seasports Club Connemara, Galway. Connemara Isles is a delightful golf club that's joined to the mainland by a causeway at Bealadangan. The course is one of the most beautiful and rugged in the west of Ireland and features attractive ocean inlets and rocky outcrops, which, in turn, provide natural hazards that demand careful consideration. Bearna Golf and Country Club Bearna, Galway. Enjoying commanding views of Galway Bay, the Burren, the Aran Islands and rugged hinterlands. Connemara Championship Links, Ballyconneely, Galway. Situated on the brink of the Atlantic Ocean in the heart of the Connemara Gaeltacht, this unique island course has some of the most beautifully scenic golf holes in the country. Joined to the mainland by a causeway at Galway Bay Golf & Country Club. Renville, Oranmore. A parkland golf course by the sea surrounded by the Atlantic on three sides designed by Christy O'Connor Jnr. This 18 hole par 72 championship course was host to the West of Ireland Golf Classic in 1997. It has also played host to several international players such as Ernie Els and Vijay Singh. Galway Golf Club. Salthill, Co. Galway. opened in 1993 and only a year later went on to host the Irish Professional Championship, so its quality is not to be underestimated. It is a Christy O'Connor Jnr-designed championship links course with the growling waves of the Atlantic Ocean on three sides. It is, therefore, unsurprisingly susceptible to mother nature and all her elements. Westport Golf Club, Co. Mayo. Westport Golf Club is rated as one of the top golf courses in Ireland. It is recognised as a prestigious venue and has hosted both the Ladies Home Internationals in 1989 and the Irish Amateur Close Championship on three occasions, most recently in 1997. |
