Our Hotels, Guesthouses, Irish Homes and Pubs cater for the many anglers who come for the famous wild brown trout fishing. The angling season extends from duckfly fishing in March to olive fishing in April and then to the most popular Mayfly dapping season in May and the "Daddy" and "Harry" in early autumn.


Other tourist attractions include viewing the magnificent ancient oak wood of the 'Hill of Doon', playing a round of golf in Oughterard's scenic 18-hole parkland golf course, or enjoying a cruise on Lough Corrib to Cong or to Inchagoill Island.  You can also experience some of the local craft industries such as finding out how candles are made by visiting the workshop and showroom of the Connemara Candle maker or by going to the world famous 'Dixon Carpet Company' and see how custom made carpets are hand stitched.

The 16th century Aughnanure Castle, down the road past the golf course, will bring you into the past where the infamous O'Flaherty clan were threatening the region this history can be explored amongst the castle ramparts.  3km west of the town on the N59 road, you'll discover Glengowla Mines, Ireland's only lead and silver mine open to the public. This is just a flavour of what's on offer in and around Oughterard but you must also enjoy the lively, friendly people who live and work in this bustling community.
